10 Ways to Spot a Player

By: Jennifer Galey

Many women think that they have found "The One" only to realize later that they were just one of many. Here are some clear-cut guidelines to evaluate your current relationship and to protect your heart in the future.

Chances are he is a player if:

1) He talks in superlatives on a regular basis. Take for instance this line. "You are the most beautiful woman I have ever met." He knows exactly what you want to hear and how it will affect you.

2) You fall in love with him in less than a month. Fast movers like fast results. That is part of the control. Players don't just let things happen. Although you may be on cloud nine, he is probably on to girl ten.

3) He doesn't answer your phone calls. This is a classic sign. If you can never seem to get a hold of him, it is probably because he is with someone else. If he is not with someone else, he is not answering so he can remain in control of his time and emotions.

4) Everything is too perfect. If you are not having any disagreements, this is not necessarily a good sign. Creating a superficial utopia is his intentional aversion from allowing you to get close to him.

5) Your friends and family don't like him. Players like to cast you under their love spell. By controlling your mind and emotions, they induce a blind loyalty. This loyalty is impenetrable to all logic. If your family and friends unanimously agree that he is not good for you, he probably isn't.

6) He does not invite you into his world. Players are great actors. They know how to play many roles very well. However, the act must take place on your stage. If he has been to your house and you are never at his, there is a g
ood chance that it might be because he is not ready to introduce you to his wife and four kids.

7) The world revolves around him. Players are inherently selfish. Grand gifts of jewelry and fine wining and dining are not evidence of pure generosity but of calculated manipulation. Scan the pages of your calendar this month. Are the events that are mapped out your plans or his? If your fingerprint is mysteriously erased from your social calendar, this should make you ponder. What has he given up for you?

8) He bounces back like a tennis ball from a break-up. If you have been with someone for at least 6 months, a break up should be a difficult transition to some degree for either party. Although you are an emotional wreck, he has continued on with his life without skipping a beat. Because he has a vast array of other options, the player has not lost anything. Since he has programmed your emotions, this break up is like pressing the pause button. He knows that if he wants to ever get back together he can press play and pick up exactly where he left off.

9) Excuses flow off the tongue with ease. A player has a gift to using words to his complete advantage. The player cannot admit to any mistake in judgment. With the wave of a wand, broken promises are instantly restored. The dinner you made for him three hours ago maybe ruined, but he has a table reserved at the newest restaurant in town. You are too distracted trying to pick out something to wear to get mad. Players know that they always have the power to make it up to you.

10) He says he is not a player. Confronting a player will do absolutely no good. Players only have control when they are viewed as wonderful, charismatic individuals. If you try to blow a player's cover, this will only challenge him to convince you otherwise. You have only two choices: continue to be his pawn or get out of the game!
