The smell is coming from that box!

The smell is coming from that box!

Journal Entry 03/15/08: I accidently packed a bag of potatoes in with my x-boyfriends stereo equipment 6 months ago. We broke up a few weeks ago and he moved out into another apartment yesterday. We didn't have room for the stereo at our apartment so the box was never unpacked until he spent his first night at his new apartment last night. When he told me about it, even though there was so much tension and stress between us, we were able to laugh and remember each other's sense of humor that we enjoyed so much about each other. Apparently potatoes continue to grow into a plant that will, if given the chance, vine around stereo wires and equipment quite nicely

The Smell is Coming from that Box

Having a sense of humor with my significant other was a huge stress reliever and I think that it allowed us to believe and trust that we didn't always have to take things so seriously all the time. Throughout our relationship we developed our inside jokes, our usual comments to the same
questions; asked over and over, and formed a friendly, lighthearted bond between us. I could always count on him to make me smile. But most of all he understood me, he understood my humor, whether funny or not. Even when I didn't plan on being funny he gave me a good chuckle to prevent me from feeling bad.

When I find myself in an uncomfortable position, I typically try to use humor to put a wave in the water. People tend to get so wrapped up in life, wrapped in work, wrapped up in relationships and love, it is always so serious. The last week has been devastating to me and I found myself constantly using humor to get through it.

With this most recent event on the last day that we were to share our apartment, we found ourselves in a position where we could still use humor to calm our uneasiness. Although we laughed and both thought it was funny, we still had in the back of our heads the truth of him moving on with his life. It made me remember the closeness that we had, and how much we enjoyed laughing together and it was very sad to see this go.

Very good article. Glad you two can move on as friends and still feel at ease with things the way they are. Best luck in the future
